Green Railscape
Green Railscape is a research publication developed as a team project during the second semester of the first year of the Urban Architecture master at Aalborg University. It explores how ecological systems, mobility infrastructure and public life can be integrated through landscape-led urban design.
Focused on the future light rail corridor in Aalborg, Denmark, the project investigates how transportation networks can move beyond their functional role to become catalysts for biodiversity, climate adaptation and enhanced spatial experience.
Combining ecological research, urban analysis and design speculation, the publication proposes a regenerative approach to infrastructure where green systems, mobility flows and social spaces operate as interconnected networks. Through a design manual and site-specific interventions, it reimagines rail corridors as living ecological frameworks that support environmental resilience while enriching everyday urban life.
Rather than treating infrastructure as purely technical, Green Railscape positions mobility corridors as active public landscapes and advocates for a shift toward multi-layered systems where movement, ecology, water management and social life are designed as interdependent processes.
